Richard Donovan

Dr Richard Donovan is a human from Planet Earth. He has participated in many extreme locations around that planet including its North and South Poles, the Sahara and Atacama Deserts, the Andes and Himalayan mountains and the Amazon Jungle. He has represented Ireland at international level at ultramarathon running and won events such as the Inca Trail Marathon, Himalayan 100-Mile Stage Race, Antarctic 100k, Everest Challenge Marathon and South Pole Marathon. Richard has also run across three of Earth’s continents, namely North America, South America and Europe, and set a world record for running marathons on all seven continents in 4 days 22 hours 3 minutes.

In addition to establishing many extreme events on Earth, including the North Pole Marathon, Antarctic Ice Marathon, Volcano Marathon and World Marathon Challenge (7 Marathons 7 Continents 7 Days), Richard has been an organiser and Race Director of Commonwealth Championships and World Championships at ultramarathon running. He has held the post of Executive Director of Earth’s International Association of Ultra Runners, that world’s governing body for the sport. Furthermore, he has been a keynote speaker at numerous events including at the US State Department and the Association of International Marathons & Distance Races global conference.

Richard is a published economist holding several degrees in Economics from Europe and the USA He has consulted to major industry as an economist and instructed at several third level institutions. With a primary degree in Economics and Classical Civilisation, he received a fellowship and academic scholarship to pursue his postgraduate Economics studies and recently obtained a professional doctorate in Project Management.

Raphael Roettgen

Raphael Roettgen is founder and managing partner of E2MC Ventures, a fund that invests in space companies globally.
 
He is a recognized thought leader on space, having published an acclaimed introductory book on space business, lecturing on space entrepreneurship and finance at several universities including the Swiss Institute of Technology and the International Space University, and hosting the popular Space Business Podcast.
 
Raphael is also an enthusiastic endurance athlete. He met Richard during the inaugural South Pole Marathon and in 2007 went on to finish the North Pole Marathon.
